Ray Burmiston

I CAN’T IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT ME, 1994

Price range: £1,450.00 through £1,750.00 £

Ray Burmiston’s, “I Can’t Imagine a World Without Me” (1994), captures Sonya Maden, lead singer of Echobelly, in a portrait full of personality and the exuberance of the 1990s.

Photographed before mobile phones and social media changed our relationship with the camera, the portrait recalls a time when people were less conscious of how they might appear on a screen.

Presented as part of The Art of Conversation at The Chancery Rosewood, Mayfair, the work belongs to the exhibition’s The Freedom to Be conversation, celebrating individuality and the freedom to be entirely yourself.

A moment of uninhibited freedom, captured before the world began looking through a screen.

Exhibition Insight
Inspired by the chance encounters and exchanges that take place within great hospitality spaces, The Art of Conversation brings together twelve contemporary artists and asks what can happen when works with different histories, personalities and visual languages meet.

Like the people who cross paths within a hotel, each artwork arrives with its own history, character and perspective. It is what happens when they meet that becomes the exhibition.

We arrive as ourselves but can leave seeing something differently.
