Ki Price: Where Culture Becomes Art

Artists Insight

We first met Ki Price at the launch of Vivienne Westwood: An Active Life at The Light House in Soho. In a room full of people, he was impossible not to notice.

Ki describes himself rather brilliantly as a “Soho reject.” It tells you quite a lot. A photographer with a studio in Soho, an unmistakable personal style and a career spent around fashion, music, art and activism, he is very much part of the world he photographs, while never quite conforming to it.

For more than three decades, Ki has captured people and moments that have shaped contemporary culture. His work has been published internationally, exhibited in museums around the world and includes an extensive photographic archive of Vivienne Westwood.

But these are more than records of who was there. There is theatre in Ki’s photographs, sometimes quiet, sometimes urgent, and an instinct for the moment when documentation becomes art.

Having photographed Westwood’s runway shows for years, in 2014 Ki was invited by Vivienne and her son Joe Corré to document their environmental and anti-fracking campaigns. He continued photographing her until her death in 2022, creating an extraordinary record of Westwood beyond the runway.

As Ki says:

“Photographing Vivienne was never about creating an icon. It was about documenting a remarkable woman whose creativity, humour and determination were evident whether she was walking onto a runway, leading a protest or simply sharing a quiet moment between events.”

Presented entirely in black and white, the six works selected by STYLL carry that theatre into an interior. They have presence, cultural weight and personality, while sitting naturally in conversation with the wider collection.

STYLL exclusively represents six limited edition photographs from Ki Price’s Vivienne Westwood archive, each authenticated with his artist approved signature and enhanced provenance.

Your Most Important Questions

What can you tell me about the quality of your print process?
We use the highest professional gallery-grade printing, producing archival Giclée prints on Hahnemühle paper. Each paper type is carefully selected by the artists themselves for its unique texture, durability, and ability to showcase colour with exceptional depth and accuracy.
Why is the work digitally signed? Does it affect the provenance?
Digital signatures are increasingly valued in the art world because they offer long-lasting clarity and durability that traditional wet signatures can’t always guarantee. They don’t fade, smudge, or degrade over time, ensuring the artist’s mark stays exactly as intended. By removing the need for physical signing, they also reduce the carbon footprint associated with shipping artworks back and forth, making global distribution smoother, faster, and more economical.

Since the artist provides an exact digitisation of their own signature—and controls its scale, placement, and presentation—the authenticity of the work is preserved with precision. This process is further reinforced by two layers of verification from STYLL, a certificate of authenticity, and a special insert letter from the artist with the artwork pictured and described, formally transferring that particular edition to the collector. Together, these measures give collectors confidence in both provenance and quality.
Will I receive a certificate of authenticity with my artwork?
Yes, we offer two layers of verification. a certificate of authenticity, and a special insert letter from the artist with the artwork pictured and described, formally transferring that particular edition to the collector. If the artwork purchased is one of an edition, the piece’s unique edition number will be displayed. Certificates of authenticity are very important to retain should you wish to re-sell the artwork in the future. If the piece is shipped direct to you, your certificate will be packed with the artwork. If you do not receive it, please do not hesitate to get in contact via admin@styllgallery.com.
