Zoë Lower has learned to navigate watery territory without breath

Artists Insight
Capturing two worlds through her lens—the drama of the submerged physical form within a serene, floating underworld, her imagery evokes a mythical, otherworldly atmosphere while simultaneously drawing us toward consequence and the need for action.

Zoë Lower has learned to navigate watery territory without breath, transforming the ocean into both subject and collaborator. In her photographs, this liquid realm distorts and refracts, turning fabric into gesture and movement into sculpture. The resulting compositions blur the boundaries between artifice and authenticity, body and environment, surface and depth.

Her work hints at career moments with Vivienne Westwood, Burberry, and the British Fashion Council. Lower’s images are not just visually compelling; they are immersive meditations on the shifting dialogue between humanity and nature.

“As an artist, portraits have become a vessel of expression, through which I strive to connect with viewers on the whirlwind of the human experience, getting lost in the creative playground where body language, light and movement meet. Moments of deep-rooted connection to the earth, cradled in her textures. Perhaps a display of vulnerability so pure that it encourages us to shed our own veils. The beauty of floating suspended in the realm between the surface and the deep, basking in a moment of peace and presence. The intricacies of an existence laced with tenderness, chaos, sensuality, and everything in between. The duality and the polarity of it all.”

Your Most Important Questions

What can you tell me about the quality of your print process?
We use the highest professional gallery-grade printing, producing archival Giclée prints on Hahnemühle paper. Each paper type is carefully selected by the artists themselves for its unique texture, durability, and ability to showcase colour with exceptional depth and accuracy.
Why is the work digitally signed? Does it affect the provenance?
Digital signatures are increasingly valued in the art world because they offer long-lasting clarity and durability that traditional wet signatures can’t always guarantee. They don’t fade, smudge, or degrade over time, ensuring the artist’s mark stays exactly as intended. By removing the need for physical signing, they also reduce the carbon footprint associated with shipping artworks back and forth, making global distribution smoother, faster, and more economical.

Since the artist provides an exact digitisation of their own signature—and controls its scale, placement, and presentation—the authenticity of the work is preserved with precision. This process is further reinforced by two layers of verification from STYLL, a certificate of authenticity, and a special insert letter from the artist with the artwork pictured and described, formally transferring that particular edition to the collector. Together, these measures give collectors confidence in both provenance and quality.
Will I receive a certificate of authenticity with my artwork?
Yes, we offer two layers of verification. a certificate of authenticity, and a special insert letter from the artist with the artwork pictured and described, formally transferring that particular edition to the collector. If the artwork purchased is one of an edition, the piece’s unique edition number will be displayed. Certificates of authenticity are very important to retain should you wish to re-sell the artwork in the future. If the piece is shipped direct to you, your certificate will be packed with the artwork. If you do not receive it, please do not hesitate to get in contact via admin@styllgallery.com.
